Mt Hood Retreat

While this project is easily one of the most challenging we’ve taken on, we couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome.  This Portland-based client purchased the home as a personal getaway for his family but also to generate income as a short term rental (STR). This large riverfront house came fully furnished and hadn’t been updated since the early 80’s. The owner wanted to reuse as much furniture as possible and supported our suggestion to source a lot of the “new” furniture+decor second hand to keep costs down, since extensive renovation work quickly ate up much of their budget. All walls were repainted white and we added blue and green accent walls in the upstairs bedrooms for character.  We left a small patch of hardwood floor in the kitchen  and replaced the heavily stained upstairs carpet with new carpet and the main floor carpet with hardwood-like vinyl planks. 

The biggest issue was the main space: with 5 bedrooms and 2 living spaces, the renter occupancy was set at a minimum of 12 persons. The main floor living room located on the other side of the stone chimney was completely enclosed like a bedroom which didn’t leave enough room for 10-12 people to comfortably gather anywhere indoors.  

The amount of time and work that went into this project was not in vain! Our client was over the moon with the outcome (especially since we stayed under budget) and according to reviews from short term renters, guests enjoy the beautiful space as much as we do.
